This Regency ensemble of off white gown and green overdress were designed for Elizabeth Bennett by Paloma H. Young for South Coast Repertory’s production of an adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” in August 2011.
The gown was made of off white silk chiffon and the overdress was made a vintage piece of green, gold and turquoise silk woven in a paisley pattern. From Paloma’s renderings and the actor’s measurements I created the patterns for both garments. Next mock-up garments were cut and sewn to insure proper fit and correct interpretation of the designer’s vision. The bodice of the off white silk dress is delicately gathered along the neckline while more densely gathered at the waistline. Along the hem of the overdress hand sewn beaded and sequin appliques over a wide gold lace border.

As a costume designer, I've worked with Catherine on many projects and am always excited at the prospect of getting to work with her again. She's great at communication and has a strong understanding of designer intent. Even better, she has a strong understanding of all types of patterning and fabrics. She has a great eye and over the years has made my designs sing in ways I couldn't have imagined!
