Regency Chevron Linen Overcoat

This Regency linen coat with chevron stripes was designed for Elizabeth Bennett by Paloma H. Young for South Coast Repertory’s production of an adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” in August 2011.

This coat is made of off white linen woven with gray & charcoal stripes. From Paloma’s rendering and the actor’s measurements I first created the pattern. I cut the linen on the bias for the lines to chevron and flatlined the bodice pieces to prevent stretching and sagging and then fully lined the entire coat. The beautiful ombré dying was done by Ashley Gamba.
